Zari Hassan and Shakib Reunite After Breakup Announcement
Zari Hassan and Shakib Lutaaya have reunited weeks after their public breakup announcement β with Shakib joking on camera about what "possessed" Zari to announce the split.
KAMPALA β Less than a month after Zari Hassan published a joint statement announcing the end of her five-year marriage to Shakib Cham Lutaaya, the couple has reunited β and Shakib is already making jokes about it.
The pair reunited in Uganda for a romantic getaway, sharing light-hearted moments as they laughed about the breakup announcement that had sparked widespread speculation across social media. In a video recorded by Zari, Shakib jokingly questioned what had prompted her to announce that their marriage had ended. “What had gotten into you? Were you possessed?” he said. Zari responded with laughter, suggesting that Shakib had refused to let the marriage end.
The context behind the reunion matters. On June 12, Zari posted a joint statement on her Instagram account announcing that she and Shakib had decided to part ways after five years, citing irreconcilable differences. The statement was signed by both parties but appeared only on Zari’s platforms, not on Shakib’s. Shakib later dismissed reports that the marriage had collapsed, insisting there had never been a real separation and that the couple had continued communicating even after the statement was posted. He described Zari as emotional and said disagreements are common in every relationship.
“If a woman leaves a family, it does not mean total separation and there is always a possibility of reunion; and the chances for reunion are even higher when there is love between the couple,” Shakib told Sanyuka TV. “It is a matter of discussing and resolving the issues.”
Neither Zari nor Shakib has offered a detailed explanation of what caused the announcement or what changed in the weeks that followed. Zari herself largely stayed away from commenting on the breakup publicly, posting only cryptic messages hinting at personal growth before the couple’s reunion became apparent through their social media activity.
For fans who had followed the couple since they went public in May 2022 and married in 2023 β a relationship that became a major storyline on the Netflix reality series Young, Famous & African β the reunion has been met with a mixture of relief and raised eyebrows. Social media reactions ranged from genuine excitement to scepticism, with some users pointing out that the chemistry between the couple had always attracted strong opinions from viewers of the show.
Whether this reunion marks a settled chapter or another public twist in a relationship that has played out very visibly online remains to be seen. For now, the couple appears to be focused on moving forward β with Shakib at least finding the whole episode funny enough to joke about on camera.
